Resolve To Succeed
Somerset Life|January 2018

It’s resolution season. If you’re anything like me, that means you spent the week since 25 December hastily eating every mince pie, chocolate and shortbread biscuit left in your home so that come 1 January you were ready to turn over a new, healthier leaf. Admirable, but… didn’t you also plan to do that last year?

Resolve To Succeed

Rather than spend a fortune on a gym membership you may not use, or sign up for a class you’ll stop after a month, I propose you try something different: a personal trainer.

Often the idea of a personal trainer conjures two images: one of being screamed at by a bully with great abs, and the other of Khloe Kardashian’s Instagram account. Neither is accurate. The first because getting fit isn’t actually meant to be a punishment and as for the second – well, there’s a reason being a Kardashian is a full-time job.

The reality of a personal trainer is an individual qualified in the areas of health and fitness who will support you as you work toward meeting your fitness goals.

The most obvious benefit is the accountability factor – it’s harder to roll over and hit snooze instead of getting up to exercise before work if you’ve arranged to meet your trainer in the park at 6.30am. When you work with a personal trainer, they’ll start by establishing exactly what it is you want to achieve and from there they’ll create some short term goals to help you along your way. Your trainer will ensure you’re safe while you’re exercising, focusing on your form to help you to avoid injuries that would derail your 2018 fitness resolution.
