Actor and filmmaker Sanjay Khan says he derives inspiration for Allama Iqbal’s rousing allegory. Perhaps, in it he finds a resonance of his own journey of extremes. Of dazzle and dust. Of stardom and the shenanigans. Of tragedy and triumph. At 78, the usually reticent Sanjay has revealed those untold stories in his cryptically-titled autobiography The Best Mistakes Of My Life. “The sheer magnificence of the book lies in the extraordinary happenings in my life, my interaction with some of the world’s greatest leaders, the drug lords of the world, the warlords of the world. It’s a loaded book, which covers my social life, my political life, my life in films… It’s an amazing story,” he claims adding, “The book is like an Alfred Hitchcock suspense movie… till the last chapter.”
He believes writing an autobiography is a trajectory of its own. “Unlike filmmaking, writing is a solitary exercise. It’s been a process of self-discovery,” he explains. “I’ve dwelled back into time and relived those memories. I’ve even smelt the perfumes and the aromas of those times,” says Sanjay nevertheless adding that it was excruciating to revisit certain areas of his life. “I’d swim for hours to de-stress after writing certain chapters,” he reveals...
