In more evidence of the government toeing a softer line on Beijing, the government recently cancelled a China-themed seminar organised by a defence ministry think-tank in New Delhi.
No explanation was given and scholars were told that “administrative reasons” were behind the cancellation just four days before the event. Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) officials said the government had expressed apprehensions about the ‘India and China in Asia: Making of a New Equilibrium’ theme of its flagship seminar, the ‘Asian Security Dialogue’, which has been held without a break since 1999.
