I would like to introduce myself as Michael Page or as most people know me in the metal detecting world as Michael Norfolk Digger.

Joy and Inspiration

I started watching YouTube videos of missing treasure hunts back in November 2015. This led me to watching a selection of YouTube videos made by Anglo Celtic Metal Detecting.

Anglo Celtic (i.e. Stephen Grey) really inspired me to get my own detector and to start discovering just what lies buried in the ground. I also started watching other people’s videos, learning about how to metal detect, as well as to appreciate clues in the land.

That is something I do rather well, watching and learning, because I am severely dyslexic. My wife eventually got sick and tired of me watching all these videos and then incessantly talking about them to her. Then for that Christmas in 2015, guess what? I had a brand new metal detector from Santa Claus! I went straight to Cromer beach with my new toy and I found a pre-decimal halfpenny. That was it – I was well and truly hooked.

After a few sessions out and about I went home one day and cheekily said to my wife, “I’d like to upgrade my detector.” She replied, “Look, I’ve already got you one, how many of the things do you need?” So I carried on for the time being, but eventually purchased a Minelab Go-Find 60. From that point, I knew that I just had to get some suitable farmland to search on, so I asked local people if anyone knew somebody with land near to where I live.

Lost and Found?

There have been several instances over my long detecting career where, not only has it has been a delight to be able to help people who have lost things, but also a great thrill when such losses are returned to their owners. I have several memories of such occurrences.
