Most people who had worked with Rekha at some bend of her career or the other willingly speak on almost all aspects of Rekha’s life: her films, the ups and downs of her career, and even her supposed affairs, albeit in hushed tones. So were Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan ever actually together? Many people in the industry believe that this story of love was never true.
By 1978, Rekha and Amitabh’s alleged affair had found its way to the cover stories of most magazines. While many reckoned that the off-screen affair was a mere ruse, a convenient spin-off from their great onscreen chemistry exploited to garner as much publicity as possible for their films, others were only too happy to believe the spiced-up stories.
It was often reported that the supposed affair, not surprisingly, caused much turmoil in the Bachchan household. In this regard, the most revealing and astonishing interview is of Rekha herself. Today people don’t ask Rekha such questions but in several old interviews, she talked rather openly about her love and the attendant risks. Not only did she speak about the intimacy between Amitabh and her but she didn’t shy away from mentioning Jaya Bachchan by name, and her reaction to their purported affair.
