Indian cricket fans thrive on pointing fingers and being excessively critical. They need someone to lash out at some target after each loss of their team. India’s current atrocious show in England where they have been thumped in the first two Tests by the home side has greatly annoyed the average Indian cricket fan. And this time the target of their vexation seems to be the head coach, Ravi Shastri.
Pictures are circulating on social media, mocking Shastri’s paunch and taking digs at him for being an inept coach. Demands are already being made to sack Shastri and bring back Anil Kumble.
While some criticisms are valid, because it is indeed true that under Shastri India has lost major Test series in Australia (0-2 in 2014-15) and South Africa (1-2 in 2017-18) and are now in dire straits in England. India doesn’t really need a coach to do well at home and since their away record continues to deteriorate. What has also not gone down well with Indian cricket fans is how Shastri reduced a four-day practice game to three days just so that the players could get some rest.
