Over the last year, the team here at VOLO Magazine has been studying the men’s magazine market to study magazines that are posing a significant challenge to the top 3 Maxim, GQ and FHM... And to our surprise we found that there exists an incredibly large chasm between the 100’s of ‘Men’s Magazines’ on the Apple Newsstand and the top 3. This ‘Chasm’ is something that the silicon valley is very aware of. It’s a prevalent phenomenon in the software business and is primarily driven by user adoption trends. However, in the men’s magazine business, we noticed that ‘The Chasm’ was a major QUALITY DIFFERENTIAL... The 3
top magazines were way ahead of their online only competitors in quality of content, layout and photography. We could find no reason, to get a subscription to any of the newcomers after buying a few individual copies.
