Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in his address at the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in Singapore, embodies the Sri Lankan experience in effectively eradicating terrorism ending a 30-year conflict. Accordingly he elucidates the scope of the terrorist problem in Sri Lanka, the strategies adopted by the Government, the humanitarian challenges faced, while bringing to light, lessons learnt, in particular, the pressing issues of recent times in the international arena.
In his address at the 66th United Nations General Assembly in New York, President Mahinda Rajapaksa, illustrates Sri Lanka’s post war efforts and its positive effects, emphasising the importance of taking an explicit and uniform stand against terrorism the world over.
The financial year 2010-2011 has seen the private sector cautiously expand and venture into new sectors. Though many have taken a prudent path of growth, stability and innovation, during the second year of post war Sri Lanka there are those who have taken ‘that’ extra step to take their businesses and in retrospect Sri Lanka to the next level. The Business Today TOP TWENTY ranking for the year 2010-2011 sets apart the giants who have made their presence felt.
The assessment methodology for corporate governance of the Business Today TOP TWENTY winners is based on disclosures made by companies in their annual reports rated against the basic requirements in Sri Lanka and best practices noted in the UK Code and King III of South Africa.
Held under the patronage of Chief Guest Sarath Amunugama, Senior Minister for International Monetary Cooperation and the Chairman of the 67th session of Economic and Social Commission for Asia-Pacific (ESCAP), a panel of analysts discussed the implications of the Asia-Pacific Trade and Investment Report (APTIR), published by the ESCAP.
