The tiny quote by legendary American architect Louis I. Kahn “Even a brick wants to be something” speaks of a thousand words. Aspirations are crucial because they help you achieve a successful and happy life, whatever that may be for you. They can also reveal the core principles of a person or a community. And in this issue, we acknowledge the importance of women in the design industry who continually thrive to inspire and intrigue us every day.
On the cover are featured the eligible and deserving women who were honoured at the GLITZ Tejomaya Women in Design 2023, a celebration of success of women architects, designers and entrepreneurs. Take a deep dive into their philosophies and works highlighted through this issue, along with a report of the proceedings of the grand gala event.
We were delighted to host and honour architect Sheila SriPrakash, a trailblazer in the field of architecture- the 1st women to start her own architectural firm Shilpa Architects. True to the artistic and ideological beliefs of the founder, the firm has emerged as the forerunner in environmentally friendly design and as a champion for the developing world through sociologically sensitive planning.
J&S Interiors's theme of the year “Sparsh” is inspired by ancient Vedic or Indian text, denoted by the rich cultural heritage of well-being, an admirable design philosophy of Jiten Jaiswal and Sanjib Saha.
Also featured is the Gujarat residence designed by Manoj Patel that evolves a volume with unique spatial planning that caters to connections internally with foyers, balconies, and common areas, an interesting hierarchy of open, semi-open, and closed spaces created for two families.
The architecture of the Sundargarh residence by Shaswat Sekhar Sarangi and Saraswat Sekhar Sarangi acts as an instrument that collects all the positive influences in nature for man's benefit, while sheltering him from all the unfavorable influences.
