In dieser Angelegenheit

The March issue of Domus India covers three architects– Charles Correa, I M Kadri, and Hafeez Contractor, all three who have been prolific designers, have a large number of public projects to their credit, and have often occupied the centre-stage of debates and discussions for their strong approaches to design as well as the role of the architect. These three names also hold the credit for being popularly present in the larger public imagination for their works and thoughts as architects. Besides, we feature a unique typewriter sculptor Jeremy Mayer and his work with the last batch of typewriters by Godrej & Boyce. The info-graphic wall at The State of Architecture exhibition around which the state of the profession was discussed is also featured in detail, allowing us to debate the present and the future of what it means to be an architect in India. Four exhibitions that were a part of The State of Architecture are also discussed in this issue – The unbuilt works of Charles Correa, the Golconde building in Pondicherry, drawings from the JJ school of Art and Architecture’s archives, and photographs of Mumbai by Y D Pitkar that show the juxtaposition of the new and the old within the cityscape.
