કચ્છનું રજવાડી સ્થાપત્ય, ગઢ અને કિલ્લાઓ

દુશ્મનોથી નગરનું રક્ષણ કરવા માટે રાજાશાહી જમાનામાં કિલ્લાઓ બંધાતા હતા. મહારાષ્ટ્ર, રાજસ્થાન, મધ્યપ્રદેશ વગેરે રાજ્યોમાં ખૂબ મોટા કિલ્લાઓ છે. ગુજરાતમાં સૌથી વધુ એટલે કે ૩૦૦થી વધુ કિલ્લાઓ કચ્છમાં છે. સિંધુ સંસ્કૃતિના સમયનાં નગરોમાં પણ કિલ્લાના અવશેષો જોવા મળે છે. કચ્છમાં સળંગ ૪૫૦ વર્ષ સુધી જાડેજા વંશનું શાસન રહ્યું છે. તેમાં ઘણા ઉતાર-ચડાવ આવ્યા હતા, પરંતુ આ સમયગાળા દરમિયાન રાજ કરનારા ૧૮ રાજવીઓએ કિલ્લાઓનું નિર્માણ કરાવ્યું હતું, તેમ જ તેમના ભાયાતો દ્વારા દરબારગઢોનું નિર્માણ થયું હતું. કોઈએ ગામગઢ પણ બનાવરાવ્યા હતા. જોકે આજે ભૂકંપનો માર અને આધુનિક કાળના વહીવટકર્તાઓની ઇતિહાસની સ્મૃતિ સાચવવાની બેદરકારીથી બહુ થોડા કિલ્લા, ગઢ સારી અવસ્થામાં છે. મોટા ભાગના કિલ્લામાં મુખ્ય દ્વાર, ઝરુખાઓ, પાયા, કોઠાના અવશેષો જ જોવા મળે છે.
