Highlights of India Today Malayalam issue dated September 24th, 2014. India Today Malayalam dated September 24, 2014 carries a look at the state of Kerala state's finances and the way to get out of the crisis. Kerala has been reeling under financial crunch for long and is now facing more trouble as it has to shell out good money for Onam for bonus and advance salary. The main reason for the current crisis is the inability of the Government to raise tax collection to levels proposed in the State Budget. There had been no increase worth mentioning in tax collection while the expenditure had gone up by over 18 percent. Tax revenues showed a decline by four percent in comparison to the expectations mentioned in the Budget. An exclusive interview with state finance minister K M Mani and former finance minister Doctor Thomas Issac and columns by eminent economists Doctor B A Prakash, Doctor K N Harilal and Doctor Jose Sebastian were included in the issue. The recent murder of RSS leader Manoj, allegedly by CPI (M) cadres in Kannur has pushed the central leadership of the party in fix as the party is already facing public wrath and loosing lot of its cadres in the past few years due to the arrogant attitudes of the state leadership in various issues including political murders. The issue is discussed in a political story. A big story on the Chinese President Xi Jin Ping's visit to India, discusses the past and future of Indo-china relation. The factional fight between the Jacobites church and Orthodox Church is making headlines from a long time in Kerala. A peace talk between these two factions was scheduled in the US. But it was undermined by the some forces in both churches and they lost an opportunity to create a turning point in the church history in Kerala.
