There is no job in the world as important as being a mum. It is also the most challenging of occupations. When women state that their job is being a housewife, we and all of society should not be too quick to judge that such women “have it easy”. In Indonesia, many women are supported not only by staff, but also by extended families and a network of close friends. This is how it should be: family is everything, and we need to do all we can to ensure that our children are taken care of and appreciate their families.
But many women in this country and elsewhere do not have the same support system that we may enjoy. Many not only raise their kids well, but also run households and support working husbands. Indeed, many are single mothers who have to do all this and juggle a job, too.
Thus, we salute you, mothers of the world, because for every successful, intelligent, kind-hearted and hard-working soul, there is usually a loving mother behind them. So, this issue, we talk to a selection of wonderful mums and look at their relationships with their children, asking them about their approaches to fostering tomorrow’s leaders, entrepreneurs and, of course, eventually mothers (and fathers) themselves.
