In dieser Angelegenheit

The 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) is on the horizon, set to unfold in Dubai, UAE, starting November 30, 2023. It's a mix of anticipation and anxiety, as people worldwide await the conference's progress on critical climate issues. There's a bit of controversy surrounding the choice of the head of an oil company as the President of COP28, drawing criticism. However, behind the scenes, the UAE is making strides to make the conference successful by reducing differences among the parties. Recalling the highs of COP26 in Glasgow and the somewhat faltering state of COP27 in Egypt, there's hope that COP28 will see the launch of a loss and damage fund, though skepticism lingers. Dubai is gearing up to welcome leaders from major polluting countries like China and the USA, but geopolitical tensions may keep the Russian president away. Amidst global worries about achieving a 43% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and the unmet commitment to provide $100 billion annually to climate funds, there's a cloud of uncertainty. Ongoing geopolitical conflicts, such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israel-Gaza crisis, cast shadows on climate negotiations. The looming 2024 US presidential election adds another layer of uncertainty to the conference's outcomes.

Yet, in the face of challenges, the spirit of developing nations, civil society, and climate activists is expected to remain undeterred. They may persist in their pursuit of climate goals, even though achieving the target of limiting temperature rise below 1.5°C seems elusive in the current global landscape.

Energy & Power (EP) is the first and only full-fledged fortnightly magazine that deals with the much cried over energy and power sector in Bangladesh. Since its inception in June 16, 2003, EP is working very hard to
a) Develop public consciousness on sustainable and even development of energy sector;
b) Assist the policy makers in assuming pragmatic policies for a balanced development of the energy sector;
c) Continuous supply of information among public; and
d) Develop a group of reporters in this field

Bangladesh is an energy deficit country like other countries in the region and most of the people do not have adequate access to the energy and power. The country is completely dependent on fossil energy source; at the same time, it is one of the most inefficient energy using countries in the world.
It lacks efficiency in planning, management, generation, distribution, load management and even at the end user level consumption.
In spite of the above drawbacks, issues relating to utilization of renewable energy, exploring alternative use of energy, planned use of environment friendly energy are significantly undermined in Bangladesh.
The biggest challenge of Bangladesh is to find a path for balanced growth of its energy sector. Despite its resource constraints, EP dynamically strives to provide theenergy sector with a flow of information and create public awareness; so that policymakers get guidelines and platforms for its sustainable development.

Code of Ethics
EP believes that public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy.
