What is leaky gut?

The gut plays a major role in the well-being of humans as 70% of the immune system lies in the gut. The gut barriers job is to protect you from infections, viruses, fungi, bacteria and parasites.

Leaky gut occurs when the binding material which glues the cells that regulate the system get damaged and separate, due to an imbalance of gut bacteria. These gaps allow toxins to leak through into the blood stream. As a result the immune system gets activated and produces chemicals to deter these invaders. When this happens it causes inflammation throughout your body which could lead to a variety of diseases.

This is when you may start to notice some of the below symptoms and conditions...

Causes:

The following could all lead to a compromised immune system and imbalance in bacteria.

Emotional stress causes elevated cortisol which affects gut health.

Antibiotics early in life

Not been breastfed

Unhealthy diet

Birth Control Pills
