Dealing With Mouth Injuries
Mamas&Papas|April 2019

Few children make it through their childhood without a split lip or cut tongue. Although most mouth injuries aren’t severe, it’s always best to be prepared to treat them.

Dealing With Mouth Injuries

How many boo-boos have you had to kiss away so far? A cut on the lip or a bitten tongue will undoubtedly make it to the list as soon as your little one becomes more active. From toys in the mouth to a tumble into the table, you can expect the occasional accident.

TREATING MOUTH INJURIES IN CHILDREN

Mouth injuries usually look worse than they really are. The head and neck have a lot of blood vessels, so a tiny cut on your little one’s lip or tongue can cause a lot of bleeding. The amount of blood may make it hard for you to see where it is coming from and panic soon sets in in both of you. Stay calm!

The calmer you are, the faster your child will calm down and the faster you can reduce the bleeding, ease the pain, prevent infection and start the healing.

1. Stop the bleeding
