Now that Jag’s SVO skunkworks has got its mitts on the F-Pace, are you sure you still want the standard one?
So even if a high-performance SUV is a ‘development’ of the template that brought us types D and E, let’s just say the new £74,835 F-Pace SVR has something of a celebratory feel to it. It’s also the work of JLR’s fast-moving Special Vehicle Operations division, whose engineers have muscled 542bhp of power out of Jaguar’s familiar supercharged 5.0-litre V8. That’s 44 per cent more power than the V6 S.
But it’s also not completely barmy looking, and the changes are all functional. Aerodynamic requirements are taken care of via huge air intakes at the front. Vents behind the wheels reduce the pressure build-up caused by swirling vortices in that area, but also reduce lift and indirectly provide the extra cooling the SVR’s hard-working brakes need. There are wheel arch extensions, extra body mouldings on the sills, and slashes to vent air out of the engine bay, reducing under-bonnet air pressure and front-end lift.
