Make sure you have an itinerary planned out to figure out which part of the city you’ll be spending most time in. Only then can you knuckle down the area of your stay. As most of my work assignments were happening in SoHo, I chose to stay on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, specifically in Chinatown, as I can easily take a 15-minute walk to where I mostly needed to be. If you’re particular about food, make sure there are restaurants or grocery stores nearby where you can get the kind of food you eat, because making time to find food when you’re already travelling can be a hassle.
