With Over 50 Designers From 11 Asian Countries and a Colourful Three-day Agenda, There’s Always Something Fresh and Fabulous Happening at Singapore Fashion Week, as Yang Mei Ling Discovers During the Most Recent One.

Yang Mei Ling
Beyond The Runway

After a successful decade-long run, Singapore Fashion Week (SGFW) returned to the National Gallery Singapore from 26 th -28 th October 2017. Having gone for the previous year’s event, I had a rough idea of what to expect this time, but looking back, it was indeed the little touches that made this three-day trip memorable.

As soon as I landed at Changi Airport, I was welcomed by a luxury fleet of BMW automobiles, which was befitting seeing that the BMW M brand celebrated its 45 th anniversary in 2017, and Singapore has been playing host to the world’s first dedicated BMW M showroom since 2010. Over the next few days, I got to ride in the coupe, sedan and SAV, which took me swiftly (yet smoothly) from my hotel – the new InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay – to the National Gallery.

Sitting right by the waterfront of the Singapore River, the InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay had only been open for two weeks prior to my arrival, but the luxury hotel was well-prepped to welcome its guests. During my stay, I had the privilege of enjoying the Club InterContinental Lounge round the clock, which meant I got to pop in for breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails before heading to the shows. The hotel even prepared a curated box of flowers and fine chocolates for my arrival and surprised me with a personalised bathrobe too!
