I&rsquo;m talking about real turntables that you and I would recognise as worthy of the name.While the volume of turntable sales is a fraction of that achieved in vinyl&rsquo;s heyday, the number of individual brands and models has grown. There is now&nbsp;more choice spanning a wider price range than ever before, from the likes of Rega&rsquo;s &pound;250 Planar 1 and Pro-Ject&rsquo;s &pound;240 EISA Award-winning Essential III [HFN Jan &rsquo;17] right up to the &pound;90k TechDAS AirForce One [HFN Jun &rsquo;13] and Clearaudio Statement v2 at &pound;93k [HFN Apr &rsquo;16]. Meanwhile the &lsquo;collector&rsquo; also has a number of limited edition decks from which to choose &ndash; not least the &pound;6500 gold and-chrome version of The Classic produced in celebration of the VPO&rsquo;s 175th anniversary [p40]. But how do the sales of turntables reflect this&nbsp;diversity?When&nbsp;pressed on Pro-Ject&rsquo;s market share, the dominance of this one brand becomes clear. &lsquo;I would say that more than 40% of all turntables sold in the world over &euro;200 are made by Pro-Ject&rsquo;, said export sales manager G&uuml;nter&nbsp;Rathammer.
