Drivers Should Be Teetotallers
Torque Singapore|February 2018

Tired of reading about accidents and injuries caused by drunk drivers, our senior writer says that it is time for a zero-tolerance approach towards drink driving.

Drivers Should Be Teetotallers

APART from my better half and automobiles, there are two other things in life that I cannot live without: bacon and alcohol.

But when my wife asked me to choose which one I absolutely couldn’t live without, I was between a rock and a hard place.

In the end, I chose alcohol. I decided that I could go on without thinly sliced strips of salty and crispy pork belly fat (there’s always bak kwa), but I really couldn’t go through life without the pleasure of alcohol.

When I’ve spent the whole day shooting cars, there’s nothing I like more than a cold beer or a gin and tonic to help me cool off at night. During the monsoon season, I might hanker after two fingers of whisky to warm myself before bedtime.

Indeed, all the gin, vodka, rum, whisky, wine, cider and beer in the world would make up for never being able to eat bacon again. I need alcohol to celebrate events or unwind after a stressful day. I can’t do the same by eating a plateful of bacon.
