5 DEFINING TRENDS

Disappearing act

The kitchen is disappearing at Eurocucina. It may seem like an ironic trend in an exhibition for kitchens, but the movement is not new, having made waves since its beginnings in 2016. This movement is not geared towards removing the functionality of the kitchen; rather it is the act of recreating and rethinking the space. It is very much the natural result of an ongoing forward march in the direction of minimalism and also the gradual integration of the kitchen into the general living space.

LEICHT demonstrated their interpretation of the ‘disappearing kitchen’ with their ‘room in a room’ concept, which sees the kitchen seamlessly integrated into an open concept living space with fittings and furnishings providing functions which are not entirely kitchencentric.

Luxury home appliances brand Gaggenau also showcased their vision of the ‘disappearing kitchen’, with their ‘Gaggenau Home’ concept. The full-scale representation of an aspirational domestic space most notably showed off a double-door fridge hidden behind large scale wooden panels that, once closed, blend seamlessly into the surrounding aesthetic.

Most traditional kitchens are surrounded by four walls and cordoned off towards the back section of the house. The first steps to renovating your kitchen for the future is to simply knock down that wall that separates the area from the rest of the home. This will link your kitchen to your dining room and beyond, making the space more accessible.
