Golden State Nationals Bakersfield
PULL Magazine|July 2018
Bakersfield has a longstanding reputation in the BMX history books. Many a National has been hosted in this central California town, from old NBA to UBR races, to early ABA events held at the (often muddy) fairgrounds.

By the mid90’s, Metro BMX had come along and this constantly improving facility first hosted the U.S. Nationals and continued to do so on and off ever since then.

There has also been plenty of BMX talent “grown” out of the farming community of Bakersfield. Legendary racers from Kris Mulhause to Roger Holder or Taylor Wells, all called Metro their home track. And it’s a tradition that still stands today, with a ton of local talent declaring Bako’ as their home. Amongst them, Free Agent A-pro Jordan Miranda is probably the most known.

His parents also run the track, and Jordan has been spending a LOT of hours here dialing in the track for them. “I never knew how hard it was to run a track until we started doing it,” he admitted. And then there’s Peter Choat, along with his fellow FullTilt teammate Christian Ricks, who also wave the Bakerstucky flag.

When you roll into the local Quiktrip and one of Tucson’s finest looks at your shirt and asks if you know Corben Sharrah, you can only be in one city in America. Often coined as the loudest city in BMX, it doesn’t matter if there is a single fan or a gaggle of Tucsonans, they know how to bring the energy.
