Has feminism killed romance as we know it?

Almost everyone I meet these days root for feminism, and why not. Women have so much to offer — way beyond the confines of the household. We are just as intelligent, hardworking, enterprising, strategising, bold, trailblazing, creative, ruthless, and clever as any man. We, too, deserve the same respect, treatment and paycheck as our male counterparts.

But the feminist movement has had some side effects. Men are more confused than ever before. They can’t fathom how to approach a liberated, enlightened woman. Since chivalry and courtship is becoming a lost art, it’s not helping the case either.

The problem is that men have inferred that they no longer have to chase women, or hold doors for them or pick up the tab when out on a date, especially the first few.

I am not saying that men need to rescue damsels in distress. All I am saying that women might be empowered, but they do appreciate a man who can look after them, rescue them if needed and give them thoughtful gifts (without waiting for a ‘special’ occasion).

No matter how tough our exterior is, we are like delicate plants that need warmth to bloom and be the best versions of ourselves. So, how about telling your woman how important her career is to you as much as yours is to her. If your argument is that there are women, who, to say the least, don’t really need a man for anything, other than maybe sexual needs, you need to think harder. Even these alpha female have a man in their lives and they, too, nurture their relationships, however difficult it is to maintain.
