He’s met Eric Clapton, hung out with Bon Jovi and looks like a 30-year-old
THE FIRST TIME I met Mark Chan was at Hard Rock Cafe (HRC) Sentosa on a muggy weekday afternoon. In spite of my tardiness, he greeted me warmly, his hand clapping my back like old friends do when they’ve not seen one another in a while.
I met him again recently as HRC Sentosa was preparing to celebrate its eighth anniversary this month. He had lost none of his warmth and positivity, but exuded an enthusiasm you don’t usually find in someone who has been with an establishment for almost three decades.
“Yes, I joined on 26 March 1990,” the general manager recalls with surprising clarity. And in the 28 years since then, Chan has risen through the ranks and been an integral part of some of the most memorable days (and nights) in HRC’s history.
