Over the past couple of years or so, there’s been a rise in Filipino themed content on the internet, particularly from New York-based internet media company BuzzFeed.
Did Americans suddenly grow a liking for all things Pinoy? Nah. It is actually the hard work of a Filipino wordsmith who is always very proud to scream, “Pinoy ako!” And why wouldn’t he, when there is so much to boast about the country.
Matt Ortile (pronounced as “or-TEE-lay”) is the man who has very well captured both the native and modern Filipino culture in his witty articles. And in case you’re wondering, yes, he is the same guy who interviewed Miss Universe 2015 and former Speed cover girl Pia Wurtzbach while making lumpia.
What exactly does a Global Publishing Lead at BuzzFeed do?
I work on BuzzFeed’s social media feeds and website content for our international teams. I work closely with our editors-in-chief and social media editors around the world on editorial strategies, pay close attention to what’s working and what’s not, and come up with ways we can collaborate. It’s fascinating to get a bird’s eye view of our global operations, getting to see similarities and differences between certain markets, and strategizing around how to best address gaps and overlaps.
Sounds fascinating, indeed. What&rsq
