The well-travelled, veteran English golfer gives his take on his chances at the US Masters as well as life on tour.

Here’s a Six-million-dollar question, “Will Lee Westwood one day become 'Lee Major'?” That might sound like a funny metaphor but at the age of 43 with over 40 professional wins in his bag, it is a question that gets harder and harder to answer as time goes by.

Nevertheless, the English former world number one golfer still maintains the same exuberance with tournament golf and is fitter than ever before. In our interview with him before the Czech Masters last year, he opens up about life on tour, his family and projects outside golf.

GV: You’ve shown competitive fire at the US Masters last year. Do you think you can finally get that major monkey off your back and just win one back? 

LW: “It’s something that doesn’t leave you. I know that I’ve been around a while but it’s weeks like Augusta that show that there is still plenty of good golf ahead of me. You mention the victories and that’s a big part of it. When you’ve experienced being in that position on a Sunday and coming out on top you just want it more and more. Hopefully I’m in the mix on Sunday afternoon this year as well.”

Looking back to being Number One, was that the high point of your golfing career? 

“I’ve had some great experiences but it was incredible to think there was no one better than me on the planet at my sport. No one can ever take that away from me.”

You have won 13 titles around the world called ‘Masters’ in various forms. 

“That’s a good observation but hopefully I’ll make it 14 at Augusta! If I’m honest there’s no real secret to it but now you’ve pointed it out, I’m happy with that!“
