Southeast Asia’s first Andaz hotel, located here in Singapore, is uniquely inspired by its surroundings: Little India, Kampong Glam and Bras Basah. Sought-after architect and interior designer André Fu, who’s also the man behind Hong Kong’s The Upper House, shares what to expect from a staycation at Andaz Singapore.
What is the overarching design theme for the hotel?
I fashioned Andaz Singapore as a multi-layered cultural journey that conveys modern luxury, yet captures the vibrant atmosphere of local areas such as Kampong Glam and Bras Basah, with inspiration drawn from a typical shop house alley. As guests explore the hotel, they will experience a strong sense of discovery – an experience that is quintessential to Singapore and its distinct juxtaposition of cultures.
Despite the volume of the Duo building and the size of the hotel, the personable scale of each space (in particular the shop house dining venues on level 25), makes this concept unlike any other property that I have created to date – this extends to the food offering and spatial design to make each moment within the hotel journey intriguing, yet timeless.
What elements of Kampong Glam, Bras Basah and Little India were tapped?
