I Want A Divorce

It’s no wonder you feel fed up with it all. Your husband may well be depressed, but it also sounds as if a lot of your relationship issues go deeper.

I Want A Divorce

Q I’m 52 and have been married since I was 23. We have two kids who are now grown up and married. My husband has nothing positive to say. He criticises me, our friends and even our children’s life choices. He hasn’t been easy to live with, having had affairs in our thirties and taking early retirement against my wishes. I wonder if he’s depressed, but he ignores 90% of what I say, telling me I’m an idiot who knows nothing. The last straw has been discussing our holiday. Mid-way through his complaining about my suggestions, I thought, ‘I don’t want to go on holiday with this person and I don’t want to live the rest of my life with him.’ Divorce scares me, but also makes me feel that there’s hope. What do I do? Debbie, 52, South East London
