Speaking of breaking the bank, most people’s first move when they start musky fishing is to buy a boat. I have had many clients at Muddy Creek Fishing Guides who have basically hopped off of my boat and run off to buy their own. A boat is a big investment, so you might forget that it is just the beginning. And when new boats cost from $50,000 to well into six figures, this realization can be daunting.
Thus, it is common to see someone buy a great boat and then fill it with cheap hardware. This is often a mistake. There are certain things that you only want to have to buy once, or you will inevitably spend more money replacing them than with an initial commitment in a high quality product. This is a lesson I learned firsthand.
