An unexpected phone call last Christmas left mum Alex Finch stripped of her entire life savings.

They Stole Every Penny

Single mum Alex Finch, 50, runs a successful business consultancy firm. She’s normally pretty sorted when it comes to her finances, but sadly this didn’t stop her falling prey to ruthless online fraudsters.

In December 2016, while she was busy preparing to take her two children on a Christmas trip to Paris to join her parents, Alex’s phone rang. It was BT – or so she believed. In fact, it was the start of an elaborate fraud. They said there had been an issue with some BT customer bank accounts, and she was at risk of losing all of her money.

We talked to Alex to find out what happened next…

What convinced you that the call was genuine?
