Seven goals raise plenty of questions about City’s defensive frailties

All the euphoria about Liverpool’s recent 4-3 conquest of a previously unbeaten in the league Manchester City made scant sense to me. Instead, it evoked memories of a World Cup game played long ago: the 1970 semi-final between West Germany and Italy at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

Four-three was the score that day too, with Italy prevailing against a German team whose motivator Franz Beckenbauer was forced to play on with his arm in a sling, having been badly fouled by an Italian defender.
