Dividing Humanity and Uniting Playing Styles.

Article Reader

Has Adam Jensen lost his passport? Early signs pointed to this stealth FPS sequel being ‘like Human Revolution… but bigger!’ Given the quality of that game, we wouldn’t have minded that at all. Instead we have an adventure set mainly in a single city – not what we expected after its globetrotting predecessor. But in choosing to focus on a nightmarish vision of Prague in 2029, Eidos Montreal have given us one of the most compelling, explorable and nastily believable virtual cities of this generation. Perfect proof that bigger doesn’t always mean better.

For the uninitiated, this is a future where humanity has access to ‘augmentations’ – body upgrades that include bionic limbs, X-ray eyes and killer wrist chisels (obviously). But Mankind Divided is set two years after a disastrous attack that sent augmented people worldwide temporarily insane. Innocents died, and public perception of the augmented shifted dramatically. ‘Augs’ are now treated like secondclass citizens, harassed by police, exploited by criminals and insulted in the streets. You’ll witness this firsthand as heavily-augmented grump Adam Jensen, the returning hero of the previous game. From the moment we step out into the city we hear people hissing “Clank”. One man even yells “You disgust me!” in our face. It’s not the most subtle of games.
