THREE OF THE FOUR ROUNDS of the MRF Challenge winter racing series have concluded with Brazilian driver Felipe Drugovich on the verge of winning the series this season. Drugovich will join the likes of Harrison Newey and Pietro Fittipaldi who have won the championship earlier. The series held the opening three rounds at the Bahrain International circuit, Dubai Autodrome and Yas Marina circuit. The first round was held as a support event to the World Endurance Championship final round and Abu Dhabi introduced the event to night racing.Drugovich has driven the F3-spec MRF Challenge car earlier as he was in the mix of things last season. His knowledge did come in handy as he emerged victorious on three out of the four races in the opening round in Bahrain. It was in Dubai though where the competition got tough for him as Drugovich was able to win only two races that weekend, the other two were won by Presley Martono and Rinus van Kalmthout.Drugovich was in his own element under the floodlights in Abu Dhabi. He was the fastest man throughout the weekend and managed to seal the quartet of wins in the third round of the series. The likes of Martono, van Kalmthout and Julien Falchero could not challenge the championship leader and had to squabble amongst themselves for the remaining podium spots.As a result, Felipe Drugovich heads into the final round of the series with a points tally of 260. His nearest rival, Martono, has garnered 174 points and holds second from van Kalmthout and Falchero who are tied at 165 points. The championship should be sealed in the opening race itself at the final round, which is scheduled to take place at the MMRT, Chennai on February 2-4.
