Excerpts from Gurudev’s discourse on the Patanjali Yoga Sutras

Ritambharaa – Intuitive knowledge

Patanjali describes another type of samadhi, when you are not aware of anything. You just know that YOU ARE!. That is it! This meditation is done with the eyes closed. When your eyes are closed, you just know that YOU ARE. But, you do not know where you are, what you are or who you are - as though you are not there at all. There is just an aabhas, a feeling that you are nothing more than the feeling that “I AM!”

Patanjali called this nirvichara samadhi, nirvitarka samadhi. The other types of Samadhi are finer and finer aspects of this.

More and more experience of the thoughtless state of mind brings adhyaatma prasaadaha – grace of the divine in life. Grace of the soul gets manifested in you. There is spiritual awakening and blossoming. You become more and more hollow and empty.

Nirvichaara vaishaaraadye – mastery over hollow and emptiness. Nirvichaara, means hollow and empty. Adhyaatma prasaadaha – the grace of the being, the innermost comes forth and blossoms.

This awareness comes about with a special knowledge. Ritambharaa – intuitive knowledge - the knowledge which is flawless, steady, benevolent and beyond time. Ritambharaa - full of truth. Ritambharaa tatra prajnaa - True state of consciousness.
