Kia Motors Announces India Entry

Korea’s Kia Motors, a subsidiary of the Hyundai Motor Group, is set to become the latest carmaker to set up shop in India and has released an official announcement detailing its manufacturing and some of its product plans for our market. The first made-in-India Kias will go on sale by end-2019.

Kia will not use sister concern Hyundai’s existing Tamil Nadu production facility but will have its own plant in Andhra Pradesh with an annual capacity of 3 lakh units. An investment of $1.1 billion (around Rs 7,050 crore) will go into the plant that will be spread over 536 acres. Production will begin in the second half of 2019.
