'You Have To Remind Yourself That You Are Enough'

Radio personality and blogger Bailey Schneider, 34, sits down with Leigh Hermon to chat about the moment she met her husband, recording her first studio clip, and how motherhood feels like unchartered territory

'You Have To Remind Yourself That You Are Enough'
Feel-good drive-time host Bailey has a radio career that spans 17 years, but her first job was at a photo store in Fourways mall, followed by a part-time job at look & listen. Bailey studied journalism at the University of Johannesburg where she also landed herself a spot on the university’s campus radio station. This is where her love affair with broadcasting began and she has since gone on to co-host with the likes of alex Jay and mark Pilgrim on 947. Bailey joined the 2oceansvibe team in 2012 where she met her now-husband Socrates Georgiades, 44. Today, she co-hosts the Smile Drive afternoon show with maurice carpede on smile 90.4Fm. Bailey and Socrates live in sea Point with their six-month-old son, George.

It seems serendipitous that I was named after a fictional radio character.

For two years before I was born, my parents lived in London, and they loved to watch a TV show called WKRP in Cincinnati. It was a 1970s sitcom about a radio station and Bailey was a newsreader. Obviously they didn’t have any inkling that I’d end up in the same industry, but it’s funny how life works out. My dad often jokes that I was named after the liqueur, because it was involved in my conception!

Despite the physical distance between us, my younger sister Tandi and I are closer now than ever.
