Key health habits that will keep you younger for longer!
1 Keep calm & meditate
Meditation can help keep you SANDY’S young. Author and calm guru Sandy Newbigging says a regular meditation routine has been found to offset the age-related thinning of the prefrontal cortex, a part of the brain associated with attention and planning.
A University of California study also found a link between meditation and a rise in activity of telomerase. This enzyme helps rebuild and lengthen telomeres, the protective caps at the end of DNA strands. Telomerase is crucial, because it helps slow our cells’ ageing process. Let’s meditate…
SANDY'S EASY MEDITATION…
Keeping your eyes open, be gently alert with your attention ‘wide open’. Don’t look to the left and right, or up and down. Instead, simply let your field of vision open up so that you have a forward and wide gaze.
After a few moments, shift your focus to the solar plexus area of your body (abdomen) while thinking these three words: “I am calm”.
Having done so, let go of the words and focus point, and hang out, being gently alert with attention wide open.
After a short while, you will notice that you’ve started thinking about other things and, when you do, simply repeat the three steps, above.
Repeat these steps as many times as required over a 10- to 15-minute meditation sitting. It can reduce stress and increase rest – an absolute must if you want to de-age yourself, says Sandy.
