ON-THE-GO APPS

Meitu Makeup Plus App + Shopping Experience

Meitu is a leading mobile internet company and has famous apps like MakeupPlus activated on more than 1.1 billion mobile devices. Even celebrity makeup artists like Lisa Eldridge and beauty vloggers like Nikkie from Nikkie Tutorials have teamed up with them to create fun makeup looks for a good cause. Just recently, Meitu partnered with well-known cosmetics brands like Charlotte Tilbury, Urban Decay, Giorgo Armani, and YSL Beauty to create a virtual counter feature on its MakeupPlus app. The feature is called ‘COUNTER’, and several more brands are expected to join the partnership in the coming months. This virtual counter is an innovative space where users can try on and purchase lip colours from their smartphones without having to contend with the hassle of queues, unhygienic sharing of products, and crowded shopping malls.

Combining an artificial intelligence based facial recognition tracker with Augmented Reality technology, users can derive a realistic try-on experience through their smartphone camera. Lip products are applied accurately onto the users’ lips in real time, with options of different colours, finishes and textures to choose from. Once they’ve chosen a shade of lipstick, they can instantly purchase it by tapping a “click-to-buy” icon on the screen. This is a great milestone for Meitu, and COUNTER has great potential for incorporating other makeup products and brands in future. Virtual shopping has never looked easier! MakeupPlus is available for free download via the app store for Apple and Android devices.
