Jason Schadt explores the weaving relationship between frequency, pitch, and words.
In a conversation I had the other day while preparing for this piece, I was reminded of something I had overlooked, prompting me to stop and think. A welcome perspective like this was too good to ignore, and as a creator it led me to a question—a question so simple yet so esoteric I wanted all the answers in all their honesty. But before we get to it, let’s clear our minds with a quick exercise I’ve adapted from my grade 6 music class. Take three deep breaths, and with your eyes closed, identify all the sounds around you. Try to tune in to each sound, as you did with your breath, and really listen closely. What do you hear?
“I say one good thing, one good thing When it hits you feel no pain One good thing about music When it hits you feel no pain.” – Bob Marley
