If you’ve been prowling through the Internet long enough, you’ll certainly find Cherrie Mun’s name just a little bit familiar. A longtime squad member of Malaysian wonderboy Joe Chia and one-half of cult blog Duo Gigs, Cherrie Mun’s street cred is as solid as you’d expect it to be. With a penchant for fashion-forward trends (exaggerated sleeves and sky-high boots galore) matched with her signature steely gaze, the 25-year-old’s bold and experimental style is a fresh departure from a sea of flirty miniskirts and peep toe platforms currently flooding the city’s glitterati scene. After all, anyone who dares to brave the Malaysian heat in a leather jacket needs to be commended.
Opting to shoot among the hustle and bustle of Bangsar’s Telawi streets, it was evident from the get-go that this wouldn’t be any ordinary personality shoot. We’re talking back alleys of restaurants and bars, filled with graffitied walls and questionable posters that the resulting pictures could have passed offas Fetty Wap’s music video stills.
