I’m an island girl through and through. Give me warm water, an icy cocktail and a sea view and I’m happy as Larry. Don’t get me wrong – the romance of Paris is intoxicating and the pulse of London is energising, but cities aren’t my happy place. So being given the opportunity to discover a little-known beach town called Diani in Kenya was right up my alley. With the second-largest marine park in the world (after the Great Barrier Reef), blissfully warm waters and a 10km white-sand beach, monkey sanctuaries and wildlife experiences, this little coastal hamlet may just be the region’s best-kept secret. Just more than an hour’s flight from Nairobi (or a jerky five-hour drive), and 30km south of Mombasa in Kwale County, Diani Beach is as idyllic as any Indian Ocean island – but there’s so much more to do than just chill on the beach – and the best part, it’s affordable…
