Q Why is Austin Powers still shagadelic after 20 years?
A We had a fantastic time making it, and there was a sense every day that all of the fun molecules were getting into the film, you know?
Q Which films inspired Austin?
A There were a lot of films—but we wanted to make sure it had the spirit of The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night. Believe it or not, it was a constant party, and that’s what we wanted for Austin Powers. We wanted it to be like an obscure comic book from the ’60s that we were making a film of.
