Studies show how unhealthy the typical Western diet—low in fruits and veggies, high in saturated and trans fats and salt—can be, linking it to liver damage, colon cancer, and heart disease. Now a review of data in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition has linked it with a higher risk of Alzheimer’s.

To upgrade your diet, eat at least five fresh fruits and vegetables a day, get more whole grains, up lean proteins, and swap sat fats for mono and polyunsaturated.
