Fitness Pro Sally Williams Strives for the Perfect Routine.

The Perfect Fit

The clash of iron in the gym seems to contradict the finesse that fitness competitors Williams and Jones display in the gym. The grunts and growls are nothing like the smiles and glam that their fans are used to seeing. They hit the weights hard. Whether it’s the weight room or the fitness room, both of these competitors are in their comfort zone. For them, the gym is home, and it was deep in the recesses of AZ Pro Physiques where the seeds were planted for an upcoming showdown that no one saw coming.

In the fitness room, the sweat pours from Williams’ forehead as she intently takes direction from Jones. Her eyes never leave Jones, and on cue the two ladies launch themselves from the mat and begin to challenge gravity. Their feet barely touch the mat before they lift off again. The teacher and the student fly together in perfect unison. Their training session is over, but intensity lingers. The energy from the duo radiates throughout the gym. Someone opens the front door as if to release some of the raw power contained inside, but they’re in Arizona, and there is no breeze to cool the ladies off. That’s perfect, because right now these two pros are hot, and they want to stay that way, right up to the 2017 Fitness Olympia.

FLEX: When did your fitness career begin?

SALLY WILLIAMS: I did gymnastics when I was young, and my major in college was dance with a minor in exercise science. After college a lot of the girls who I knew from gymnastics were now into fitness, and I had always admired IFBB fitness pro Nicole Duncan and, of course, Whitney, so for me it was a natural progression toward fitness.
