As a country and as a destination, Bahrain is a true global spot where the old meets new, happily.
Please tell us a little about the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority.
The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) was formed two years ago. Tourism is now a huge focus area for the government with regard to increasing revenues and for diversifying the economy and GDP of the country. As of the year 2016, we had reached a point where 6.3 per cent of the GDP was coming in from tourism, which was a jump of around four percent from the last couple of years. We now have a very strong goal to take this figure up to around eight per cent in the next couple of years.
Therefore, there is a big push from the government to promote tourism and ensure that tourism is an important factor of the economy. That is the reason why the BTEA has been formed. We promote Bahrain as a destination for people to come in and visit.
