So you’re standing at the salad bar pondering which is better, iceberg or romaine lettuce?

Or perhaps you’re in the freezer aisle debating which contains more nutrients, asparagus or broccoli? Well as it turns out, the old adage, ‘the darker the better,’ is true. According to experts, dark leafy greens pack way more benefits than their lighter green counterparts.

DARK LEAFY GREENS VS PALER GREENS

Both light and dark greens contain powerful nutrients, such as chlorophyll; however, dark greens contain more chlorophyll. Chlorophyll, which gives leaves their green color, enables leaves to soak up the sun and make nutrients. Darker leaves, because of their color, are able to absorb more sun, so they synthesize more nutrients, making them a healthier choice over lighter green vegetables.
