10 Signs You're Dealing With A F*ckboy On Social Media
Cosmopolitan - South Africa|May 2018

There’s no denying that social media is a legit way to meet future bae. Not everyone you meet online will turn out to be a creep – but there’s a very high possibility that you will (sorry) come across a f*ckboy. Here’s how to deal

Lisa Katz
10 Signs You're Dealing With A F*ckboy On Social Media

1 He keeps sliding into your DMs. You’ve politely asked him to stop or ignored him completely, but he’s relentless in trying to get your attention. Guys who troll women from behind their screen are lonely and insecure. They’re looking for some (any) type of response – so don’t give it. Ignore his messages and move on. If he doesn’t get the hint, report and block him. This way, the social media platform also knows he’s not listening to you (and is bordering on harassment).

2 He sends you dick pics without your permission. An unsolicited dick pic that appears out of nowhere is invasive – and offensive. (Besides, it’s kinda small…) While you might just want to ignore it, there are three things you should do: report and block him, but keep the pictures as evidence. ‘If you, the recipient, are under 18, it’s a criminal offence under the Sexual Offences Act [for someone to send you a dick pic]: the unlawful exposure of genital organs to children,’ says Emma Sadleir, social media law specialist and founder of the Digital Law Company. ‘If you’re over 18, the receipt of dick pics could amount to harassment under the Protection from Harassment Act.’ If they persist (it happens), or if you want to press charges, you’ll need the pics as evidence.

3 He insults you, but then asks you out. ‘Negging’ is a f*ckboy’s way of making you feel more vulnerable to his advances by knocking your confidence. Its other name? Emotional abuse. And you’re way better than that, girl. Get blocking.
