Located on a tree-lined brick street in Marietta, Ohio, it is within walking distance of Marietta College and the historic downtown shopping and theater district. Even though the home is right in the middle of town, the lot is large enough for a formal stone raised-bed vegetable garden and an orchard with more than a dozen trees such as apple, cherry, peach, persimmon and fig.The family&rsquo;s 5,500-square-foot Colonial Federal-style home was built circa 1831 and is listed on the National Historic Register. It has been carefully renovated with historically appropriate details, including reproduction Federal period wallpaper and curtains. The house sits higher than the street because it was built, in part, on a Long Barrow&nbsp;Adena&nbsp;Indian Mound, which is more than 2,000 years old and predates the nearby 30-foot-tall Hopewell Indian&nbsp;Conus&nbsp;Mound. Topographic maps show that Whites Road, which borders the southeast side of the home, was constructed along the&nbsp;Adena&nbsp;Indian Mound.The home is built like a fortress with triple and quadruple brick interior and exterior walls&mdash;a feature that Ethan, in particular, likes because it reduces the children&rsquo;s noise while he enjoys &ldquo;the man room.&rdquo; Another favorite feature is the side porch, which was recently renovated with dog-proof screens that are holding up well so far.
