Thanks to grassroots organizations on both sides of the aisle, there’s never been a better time to make your voice heard.
ON AN APRIL afternoon in Las Vegas, Sara Weston was running late. A junior at the University of Nevada, she had already put in a full day of classes before she found herself striding briskly toward a meeting room at the city’s Sands Expo Center. The door was closed, but Weston slipped in and beelined across the seated circle of about a dozen women, ages 17 to 70-plus, heading for a chair right next to the moderator. The point of attending, after all, was to be heard: This event, the latest stop on a cross-country “listening tour” called Women2Women (W2W), was billed as a way for ordinary women like Weston to dip their toes into politics.
“If you’re going to make a difference, you have to be involved,” says Weston. “I have viewpoints, and I’m not afraid to share them.”

BRIDGING THE GAP
Anyone who’s organized a block party or a book drive knows that when it comes to civic life, women show up. They volunteer and join community associations more often, register to vote more, and make their voices heard at the ballot box in greater percentages than men.
